What is VoIP?
June 18, 2019

What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice Over IP and a modern method for making voice calls using an internet connection.

A VoIP phone system removes the requirement for a costly on-premise phone system.

Lets break it down:

Traditionally, voice calls are made using telephone lines, ISDN or analogue.

These lines run between your office telephones and the public telephone exchange, via your on-premise telephone system.

VoIP, instead, uses your existing broadband connection to make and receive calls.

Between your phones and the telephone exchange is a hosted telephone system. This system controls VoIP calls, just as a normal telephone system would.
